Welcome to One Car Garage, in which I choose a manufacturer or class of vehicle, and you decide choose single vehicle (no matter how old, no matter how exclusive) to live with for the rest of your life. This is your only vehicle, and all expenses are paid for, including price of entry, insurance, gas, etc.

Yesterday’s One Car Garage experiment with car class as opposed to manufacturer went really well. I saw a lot of fantastic !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! I’d never even heard of. Today we’re going to be going back the manufacturer approach and take on Alfa Romeo.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

With all of the gorgeous cars produced by the quintessential Italian marque, it’s easy to be seduced by the likes of the 8C Competizione, 33 Stradale, and the Montreal. Today though, I’ll be straying far away from those types of sport-oriented beast-machines. Instead, I’ll take an F12. The oft forgotten Alfa van that was usually relegated to official polizia or ambulance duty. They could be kitted out with a camper shell and and a diesel. Though it won’t be fast, I know damn well a lot of fun times would be had in my Italian bus.

I'll have the 159 Q4 2.4 Diesel Wagon. Would be about everything I'll ever need from a car.

Soooo many to choose from, but I think I'd go with Giulia TI Super. I love the understated classiness of 4 door Giulias, and this is the best of the best. As much as I'd love a 33 Stradale or a Disco Volante, I would just park it next to my bed and stare all day.

TZ3 Corsa for me thanks. I mean, just look at the thing, it's painfully pretty to look at, and it has the 8c's engine under the hood so it sounds every bit as good as it looks.

Why only one? Cruel cruel man.

Right, I'm thinking it'd have to be a 2600 Zagato. Because drop-dead gorgeous. Slightly wider tyres and engine bored out to 3.0l with all the Alfaholics go-fast bits from the twincam and I'd go hunting 3.0l CSLs.

Kinja'd!!!

...or a 3.0l V6 Alfetta saloon ...or a 3.5l GTV6 on throttle bodies...or an 8C 2600 Monza ...

Why must you make me choose?

Ah, but it was only styled by Nissan. It's got hopelessly unreliable Fiat/Alfa running gear. So what you get is a dull-looking car that won't work for long.

Oh if only they'd swapped roles...

10/06/2013 at 17:07

Not only does it have the 8C's Fezza-Maser V8, but it's all-carbon (IIRC) and weighs the same as a Lotus Elise!

Ooh man, this is an interesting one. I could go for a manual 159 V6 Q4 estate, or I could be selfish and go for a 4C, or look through their rather spectacular back catalogue for something like a Giulia Sprint GTA or the Montreal. Or I could cycle and use hire cars for the rest of my life by buying pure porn in the shape of the Tipo 33 Stradale, a car that can only be driven occasionally but can live in my living room the rest of the time opposite the TV...

...or I could go with "Miata is always the answer" and say the upcoming Nuova Spider (or whatever it'll be called).

But I'll go for a 156 Sportwagon GTA 3.5 Autodelta. Who needs oversteer (it's FWD...) or petrol money, anyway? A 300bhp estate car is just the ticket!
